A HIGH-END marina house and apartment development planned for Townsville City is set to provide boutique living in one of the most picturesque parts of town.
Maidment Group has lodged applications with the Townsville City Council to develop a residential offering of 11 homes along the marina and a 16-unit apartment block.
Maidment Group managing director Glen Maidment said the development at 30 Mariners Drive was on an end of The Strand that had “always been particularly well-regarded”.
The $50 million project was in the early stages of the planning process and wouldn’t be launched officially until August, but Mr Maidment said potential buyers were already registering their interest.
He said professional couples and families at the higher end of the market would be interested in the product, particularly those around the North Ward and Castle Hill areas.
“It’s a very iconic site,” Mr Maidment said.
“It’s a really big opportunity.”
The apartments would range from 230sq m to 380sq m and feature stunning views, while the exclusive homes would have sweeping marina views.
Prices for the lower-level units would start around the $1.25 million mark, while the marina homes and high-level apartments would range up to about $2 million.
Townsville Deputy Mayor and planning and development committee chairman Les Walker said the site was a “very prime” one for waterfront development in the city.
He said it was a good feeling to know applications of this calibre were coming in, although it was only early in the process and it would need to be assessed on its merits.
He said recent works at The Ville Resort — Casino and planned future projects in the area had sparked confidence.
Cr Walker said The Ville had shown confidence in the area and had invested well to expand its offerings.
Mr Maidment said the activity in the area and potential for the site had been attractive to the company.
