Come Prepared
Take note on how your family uses your current home and think about the sort of lifestyle requirements you’ll need to take into account when choosing a design for your new home. Ask yourself, what are the ‘must haves’ when deciding on a floorplan to suit your needs? How many bedrooms, bathrooms or living areas do you need to cater for the needs of the entire family? Become familiar with the areas in your current home that the family uses the most and potential areas of a home you may need but don’t currently have. By having an idea of what needs must be met in a home design, you’ll be able to quickly determine whether a floor plan will or won’t suit your requirements.
Do your research
Display villages located in your local M Land community will feature a number of builders and a variety of display homes. Let your fingers do the walking and visit different builders’ websites. That way you can come up with design ideas, narrow down floor plans which suit your needs and familiarise yourself with terminology to ensure you make the most of your visit.
Keep an open mind
Display villages are a fantastic source of ideas and inspiration for the first time or experienced home buyer alike. Home design trends are constantly evolving and changes in technology mean there is always something new to integrate into a home build. It’s great to have an idea of what you do and don’t want in your new home before you visit a display village, but remember…you may not know you want something until you see it for yourself!
Collect information & ask questions
If you come across any design ideas or floorplans you like, or a builder you can see yourself working with, grab a brochure or information pack to remember their details. Building consultants are there to help and happy to answer questions. By asking building consultants for advice, you’ll gain an insight into how they treat you as a client and help in the decision making process when choosing a builder for your new home.
Mistakes to avoid
Visiting display homes and going through the process of designing your new home is supposed to be fun. To keep stress to minimum here’s a few things to keep in mind:
- Take your time when visiting each display home. By slowing down you’ll be able to absorb the details of each home and give you time ask the right questions.
- Information overload can confuse the decision making process, so don’t try and see every display home in one visit.
- Weekends are the busiest time to visit a display village. By scheduling your visit during the week, you’ll be able to take in the details without the weekend rush.
- Review your visit while the information is fresh and take notes whilst you’re visiting display homes. It will make remembering each builder and display home you visited a lot easier and help when planning your next visit.
