Private Queensland developer, Maidment Group, has been chosen as an exclusive supply partner with Defence Housing Australia (DHA), as part of their New Builds Volume Leasing Program, which was recently announced by Defence Australia and the Albanese government.

New Builds Volume Leasing Program will deliver over 400 homes for Defence personnel moving to the region these homes, which will be leased to DHA and provide new, high quality, affordable accommodation for Defence families in Townsville, a vital response to the region's housing crisis and a key contribution to the expansion of the Defence Housing Australia (DHA).

As Townsville cements its role as Australia’s largest garrison city, the demand for quality, affordable housing for Defence families is more critical than ever.

The city is currently experiencing a severe housing shortage, with rental vacancy rates falling below 1 per cent. This new development will directly address this gap, ensuring that both Defence families and investors seeking DHA-approved properties can access secure, modern housing options.

This project will deliver 400 homes within 30 kilometres of Lavarack Barracks, directly supporting the expansion of the 3rd Brigade. This housing initiative is set to meet the needs of Defence families as the Australian Defence Force prepares to station an additional 500 personnel in Townsville from 2025.
